School and Municipal Energy Cooperative of WNY
The School and Municipal Energy Cooperative (SMEC) of Western New York (WNY)* fosters collaboration between municipal agencies and school districts in an effort to:
- save taxpayers money,
- reduce duplication of effort and administration, and
- explore new opportunities.
As individual entities, members would not have the same opportunities that are available to the group as a whole. SMEC's aggregate approach to commodity purchasing for electric and gas reduces utility bills for municipalities and school districts. Since its inception in 1998, SMEC has saved its members over 14 million dollars.
* SMEC of WNY is in compliance with all state and federal regulations including General Municipal Law Article 5-G and Section 119-o
