Harkness student shows nursing potential
Joelle SeidenJoelle Seiden, a junior from Gateway Longview School, was selected as Erie 1 BOCES’ featured student of the month. Joelle is enrolled in the Health Careers program under the instruction of Candace Santana RN at Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career & Technical Center.

According to Santana, “Joelle has expressed and demonstrated personal growth throughout the year.”
Joelle entered the program because “she wanted to explore careers in healthcare and because her home school does not offer elective courses.”

“Joelle has expressed a huge sense of accomplishment in her life now and feels as though she is progressing toward her future every day,” said Santana. “Joelle has demonstrated both personal and professional qualities needed to be successful.”

After graduating in June, Joelle plans to continue her education and obtain her registered nursing degree then specialize in either midwifery or oncology.

As part of public education, Erie 1 BOCES offers a variety of career and technical programs during the regular school day to high school students in Erie County. High school students interested in learning more about how they can participate in various programs such as criminal justice, web and gaming technologies, nursing or aviation technology, should visit or speak with their high school counselor.
