Joseph Hoff Honored as Erie 1 BOCES Distinguished Alumnus
Joseph HoffThis year’s Erie 1 BOCES Distinguished Alumni honoree is Joseph Hoff. Hoff attended the two- year Electrical Technology program at the Potter Career & Technical Center. He is currently the owner of Abbott Answering, an answering service for after-hours calls to medical practices, law firms and other businesses.

Hoff believes that Erie 1 BOCES set him on the right career path and established a discipline for entry into college. After graduating from the Electrical Technology program and Hamburg High School, Hoff earned his associate degree from Alfred State and a bachelor’s from Rochester Institute of Technology, both in Electrical Engineering Technology. Prior to starting Abbott Answering, Hoff was a Network Engineer at HSBC Bank for 26 years.

Hoff continues to give back to Erie 1 BOCES long after graduation in a number of ways. He is an Advisory Committee Member for the Computer Technologies programs and makes college and career presentations to current career and technical education students. Additionally, he has served Erie 1 BOCES as a computer technologies evaluator for NOCTI, a standardized set of assessments that provide industry credentials for students graduating from a career and technical education program.  Hoff is also on the Eagle Scout Board of Review for the Boy Scouts of America and won the Boy Scout Award of Merit in 2011.
