The Western New York Regional Information Center (WNYRIC) provides technology services to five regionally based BOCES and their component school districts. A quarter of a million students are educated in the Western New York Region where the WNYRIC provides information and technology services to support instructional and administrative functions. The WNYRIC's main office is located at Erie 1 BOCES' Education Campus in West Seneca, N.Y.

Mobile Device Management Solutions Made Easy

The number of districts utilizing mobile learning devices in the classroom is continuously growing. Is your district finding the management of such devices to be cumbersome and time consuming? The WNYRIC has anticipated the need for a mobile device management solution, and a team at the RIC has spent months investigating which types of solutions will benefit the districts. To assist our districts sort out all the information, we have developed a list of functionality criteria necessary in a mobile device management (MDM) solution located in the table below and hope that you find it useful.

NYSERDA Grant Reaps Rewards

The WNYRIC NYSERDA grant, which was submitted in February 2011, is beginning to reap visual rewards. The monitoring of current power utilization at 355 Harlem Road data center is complete, and the initial funds from NYSERDA have been encumbered. Replacements of more energy efficient virtual server blades are on their way as well as an additional 56 TB of virtual storage hardware. This new equipment will be installed by February 2012, and power savings of 2,865,698 kilowatts (kWh) will be realized annually!
