Welcome to Career Development Services at Erie 1 BOCES. We offer exciting educational opportunities to high school students, adults and employers.
High school students in 11th and 12th grades may attend any of the 24 career and technical education programs offered at our three state-of-the-art career and technical centers: Harkness, Kenton and Potter in addition to some off-site locations. Programs provide hands-on experiences for students that model the world of work. Our faculty of experienced, qualified teachers provides real-world opportunities for students who gain skills and knowledge using current technology. Each senior participates in an internship experience at an area business providing an opportunity to apply skills acquired and to network within the industry.
In Career Development Services, students are prepared to enter the workforce or college. Academic classes are offered at the career centers and students take advantage of over 60 articulation agreements with two and four-year colleges to jump start their post-secondary studies. We are proud that over half of our graduates pursue a college degree, usually in the program area they studied in career education.
Career Exploration is a career exploratory program to assist 10th grade students in identifying career interests and aptitudes. By exploring a variety of programs, an appropriate plan for the 11th grade program is developed.
Occupational Special Education (OSE), is a modified exploration and skills training program for students with disabilities who will enter competitive employment. Students have opportunities to apply skills at area businesses under the supervision of the OSE teacher.
Other services such as the Niagara Frontier Industry Education Council and other career exploration opportunities for middle and high school students are available. Through the Erie 1 BOCES Career and Technical Education Advisory Council, partnerships are established to enhance the career development opportunities offered to students in our component schools.
Adult education programs are offered in workforce preparation, apprenticeship courses, employee training and education, literacy and job skills training. These opportunities are available through the Workforce Development Programs.
