General Information

COURSE CANCELLATION

If a minimum enrollment is not reached for a course, BOCES reserves the right to cancel the course and refund the tuition fees.

 

TUITION AND FEES

The fee covers all tuition and normal supply costs of each course. These fees are due in full at the time of registration. Book and/or material fees, where required, will be collected the first week of classes.

Notice: any check returned for insufficient funds will be assessed a $15.00 surcharge.

 

TOOLS/SUPPLIES

In some courses students are requested to purchase tools, safety equipment, and/or supplies for individual projects. The instructor can provide the student with an estimate of anticipated additional costs the first night of classes. The student must cover these costs. Safety glasses must be worn in all shop areas. It is the student’s responsibility to purchase these glasses.

 

COMPUTER POLICY

Students enrolled in computer classes will be required to comply with district policies regarding hardware and software usage

 

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION

Persons who successfully complete a course will be issued a certificate of completion. These certificates will be awarded upon the recommendation of the instructor, based upon attendance, class participation and individual progress. A fee of $5.00 will be charged for each additional certificate requested.

 

STUDENT CONDUCT

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a proper manner regarding safety, class conduct, and cooperation with classmates, instructors and supervisor. Each student assumes an obligation at the time of registration to obey all rules and regulations defined by the school.

 

NO SMOKING POLICY

Students and staff are prohibited from smoking on school grounds which is defined as any building, structure and outdoor grounds according to New York State law.

 

INSURANCE

Erie 1 BOCES does not carry accident insurance for any of its Workforce Development classes. It is the responsibility of the student to pay for any medical expenses should an injury occur in class.

 

MAIL-IN REGISTRATIONS

If you register by mail, a receipt will be sent to you. There will be no other confirmation or notification unless the class is canceled or filled.

 

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

School closings due to inclement weather, etc. will be announced on radio stations WBEN 930 AM and STAR 102.5 FM. The closing of day school classes will also close the evening program. Any emergency school closing days will be added to the end of the semester. Vacation Closings – The closing of the day school classes for vacation reasons will close the Workforce Development classes.

 

REFUNDS

Tuition refunds will be made only under the following circumstances:

  1. Cancellation of a course: A full refund will be made if a class is cancelled due to insufficient registrations.
  2. Withdrawals: A full refund will be made for withdrawals only prior to the first week of class.
  3. Refunds of tuition minus $25.00 processing fee will only be made during the first week of classes.
  4. There are no refunds after this time.

 

FINANCIAL AID

Pell Grants and student loans are available for the Licensed Practical Nursing, Esthetician and Cosmetology licensing programs only. A financial aid officer is available to assist you.

 

OFFICE FOR VOCATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES (VESID)

This State run agency can assist people with training referrals and other services. Any individual who has a documented disability that keeps them from current full or part-time employment may apply for assistance. 848-8001

Erie 1 BOCES training programs are eligible for these assistance vouchers.

 

COMPANY SPONSORED TUITION PAYMENT

Many companies have payment programs for employees who take courses to upgrade skills. They have, in the past, paid tuition costs for training.
