The School and Municipal Energy Cooperative (SMEC) of Western New York (WNY)* fosters collaboration between municipal agencies and school districts in an effort to build relationships to:
- save taxpayers money,
- reduce duplication of effort and administration and
- explore new opportunities.
As individual entities, members would not have the same opportunities that are available to the group as a whole. SMEC's aggregate approach to commodity purchasing for electric and gas, reduces utility bills for municipalities and school districts. Since its inception in 1997, SMEC has saved its members over 10 million dollars.
