The West Region Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language Technical Assistance Center (BETAC) at Erie 1 BOCES, was established in 1985 and is Western New York's primary source to enhance the knowledge and competencies of educators, parents, and community members for promoting the academic excellence of limited English proficient (LEP) students.
BETAC has provided staff development, parent involvement, and program advice to rural, suburban, and urban educators, and has supported diverse families and communities in gaining a voice in their children's schools. It has sponsored major initiatives for integrating English language learners from various linguistic communities, in ways that build upon their heritage, cultures and languages while achieving academic success.
The West Region BETAC at Erie 1 BOCES also remains a respected contributor to area efforts in building understanding among races, tongues, and faiths in our classrooms, districts, and neighborhoods.
