Wired To Work in Electrical
Cameron Cacciotti is a senior from West Seneca East High School and is enrolled in the Electrical Systems program at Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career and Technical Center.
“I knew the Electrical Systems program required a great deal of math knowledge,” Cameron said. “I entered the program because I am very good at math and I was interested in getting into a career that did not require a college degree but also generated a lot of revenue.”
Upon graduation, Cameron wants to become a union apprentice through the IBEW Local #41. He’d like to gain experience through their Construction Wiremen program and plans to apply for a position with an electrical contractor to further his experience.
“Cameron’s grades and attendance are excellent,” said John Snyder, electrical teacher for Erie 1 BOCES. “Cameron’s work ethic, leadership skills, problem-solving skills and attention to detail will allow him to excel in the electrical industry.” In addition to laying the foundation for a career and introducing him to union representatives, Cameron shared another program advantage, “…the school provided me with an OSHA 10 license that is required by most companies.”
As part of public education, Erie 1 BOCES offers a variety of career and technical programs during the regular school day to high school students in Erie County. High school students interested in learning more about how they can participate in various programs such as electrical, web and gaming technologies, nursing or aviation technology, should visit www.e1b.org/cte or speak with their high school counselor.
