Working Toward A Career in Cosmetology
Alexis Ettipio is a senior from Kenmore East High School and is enrolled in the Cosmetology program at Erie 1 BOCES Kenton Career and Technical Center.
“I enrolled in BOCES because I really like doing hair and makeup, and I wanted to learn more about the cosmetology field and become a cosmetologist,” Alexis said.
“This program has provided me an advantage by preparing me to get my license, and to learn more about the field and get experience.”
In the fall of 2020, following graduation, Alexis plans on getting her professional license and working at a salon. She also wants to continue her education. Under the instruction of Maria Guarino, Alexis has learned about hair color, hair design, skin care, and more.
“Alexis has displayed remarkable growth since she’s been in the program,” said Guarino. “She has honed her skills with maximum effort, patience, and a positive and professional attitude.”
As part of public education, Erie 1 BOCES offers a variety of career and technical programs during the regular school day to high school students in Erie County. High school students interested in learning more about how they can participate in various programs such as cosmetology, web and gaming technologies, nursing or aviation technology, should visit www.e1b.org/cte or speak with their high school counselor.
