Mark Mecca joins Erie 1 BOCES’ Board of Education
Longtime education advocate Mark Mecca has joined Erie 1 BOCES’ Board of Education.
Mecca, an educator for 23 years, has been a member of the Williamsville Central School District Board of Education for six years. He has also held multiple roles with the Erie County Association of School Boards (ECASB).
Mecca said he saw first-hand the value of Erie 1 BOCES for students while on the Williamsville board.
“I would like to support the great career and technical education training and special education programming happening through Erie 1 BOCES,” he said. Mecca said that he had a school-aged child, and that he “would like to make Erie 1 BOCES programming as strong as possible to support her and her peers.”
Mecca joins the board following the retirement of Raymond Carr, who had served on the board for 14 years prior to his retirement at the end of June.
Erie 1 BOCES’ Board of Education consists of seven members, each a resident from one of its 19 component school districts. In New York State, BOCES board members are elected to three-year terms that commence on the first day of July following their election. Members of a BOCES board are nominated by resolution from one or more of the school boards of its component districts. BOCES board members are then elected by their component member boards during a designated vote in April. The positions are unpaid.
