Get started by attending an orientation session at the Erie 1 BOCES Workforce Development Center.
 
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Gain an understanding of the safe and proper use of all collision repair hand and pnematic tools.  Learn the repair procedures used to restore vehicles to pre-accident condition such as: sheet metal repair and rough out, use of plastic body filler, panel replacement, bumper and plastic repair, corrosion protection, refinishing and safety, spraying techniques, surface preparation and undercoats, and introduction to the proper use of base coats and clear coats.
 
Receive an introduction to MIG welding equipment and techniques.
 
This program will prepare you for the I-CAR certification exams in Refinishing and Non-Structural.
 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • A TABE score of 8.0 in reading and 7.0 in math is required*.
  • A personal interview will be conducted.
  • A $300 security deposit is required.
  • A valid NYS Driver’s License is required.
 
EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
Previous employers include Basil Chevrolet, Carubba Collision, Steven’s Collision, West-Herr Automotive Group, and Don’s Auto Body.  Entry level Automotive Collision Technicians can expect to earn an average of $28,000/year.  After 3-5 years, compensation is a performance driven wage of $70,000 – $100,000/year.  A Placement Specialist is on staff to assist you with resume writing and interview skills.

Gain an understanding of the safe and proper diagnostic and repair procedures.  Get hands-on experience with tools and equipment, preventative maintenance, brake system repair, steering and suspension service, electrical system maintenance, engine performace, including diagnostic scanner use, and New York State Inspection procedures.
 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • A TABE score of 7.0 in reading and 7.0 in math is required*.
  • A personal interview will be conducted.

Small Engine Repair (36 Hours)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This course provides instruction in the theory and operation of two and four cycle engines and outboard motors. Instruction is also provided in the special tools, parts and procedures used in the cleaning, repair, and inspection of the engines. Ignition, fuel, and combustion systems, engine tune-up, and troubleshooting will be covered.
