Tuition: $2,500
The cost of the program is $2,500. Financial assistance may be available for qualified candidates. Tuition includes books and the cost of the certification exam.
Get started by attending an orientation session at the Erie 1 BOCES Workforce Development Center.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This course will provide students with the theory knowledge and the hands-on experience to enter the healthcare field as a Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician. A Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician is a very important part of the healthcare team.
During the 126 hours of theory you will learn: the role and responsibility of a Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Infection Control, Decontamination Procedures, Preparation, Packaging, Instrumentation, Sterilization, Storage, and Inventory Control and Distribution.
Students will also complete a mandatory 98-hour hands-on internship.
Students who complete this course with a minimum of a 75 average will be eligible to take the CBSPD National Certification exam.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- A TABE score of 10.0 in reading and 6.0 in math is required*.
- A personal interview will be conducted.
- A $100 security deposit is required.
EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
The starting wage for Sterile Processing and Distribution Technicians is $12.00/hour. A Placement Specialist is on staff to assist you with resume writing and interview skills.
