Students Win National Aviation Design Challenge
A team of students from Erie 1 BOCES Aviation Technology program at Harkness Career & Technical Center in Cheektowaga placed first in the 2018 Aviation Design Challenge, sponsored by General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Led by their instructor Thomas Leach, the team of 11 students from 9 local high schools used simulation software to modify a virtual plane's aerodynamic design. Out of 130 high school teams competing from across the country, the Harkness team garnered the highest score. Now, four of the students will participate in an all-expenses paid trip to help build a plane at Glasair Aviation in Arlington, Washington, from June 17 to June 30.
