Administrator’s Conference

School Leadership Invited to First-Ever Conference

Peter DeWitt, Ed.DIn the first conference of its kind offered by the Western New York Regional Information Center, school leaders are invited to network and learn at the 2019 Administrator’s Conference on August 1-2.

Day one will focus on collaborative learning from guest speaker, Peter DeWitt Ed.D. Dr. DeWitt is a former K-5 teacher and principal who now speaks publicly about collaborative leadership and fostering inclusive school climates. His approach centers around collaborative leadership's six influences that matter most: instructional leadership, collective efficacy, professional learning, feedback, assessment capable learners and family engagement.

“This is the first year we will be holding the conference for principals and assistant principals in Erie 1, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus and Orleans Niagara BOCES. It is modeled after the Instructional Development Advisory Board (IDAB) retreat with the goal of giving building level leaders the opportunity to network and learn together away from the distractions of the school building,” Elizabeth Freas, assistant superintendent of Educational Supports and WNYRIC Services, said.

On day two, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions focusing on different facets of the Community Resources Co-SER, from linguistically diverse learners to trauma informed care and restorative practices.

“The breakouts on Friday will give participants an opportunity to expand on Peter DeWitt’s presentation and apply the thinking to their own experiences,” Jessica Karches, supervisor of leadership, mentoring and professional development said.

The conference will be held at Holiday Valley Resort and Conference Center in Ellicottville, NY, and includes breakfast, lunch and a networking dinner on Thursday and breakfast and a grab-and-go lunch Friday. Register online by July 22.

If you would like to stay overnight, you will need to make your own reservation. A block of rooms has been reserved for Erie 1 BOCES at a cost of $123 per night for the Inn and $134.21 per night for the Tamarack Lodge. Holiday Valley’s phone number is (716)699-2345.
