Melanie Kitchen, Molly Gallagher | Design thinking applies an intentional process to develop solutions that create a positive impact. Teachers will use this process developed by IDEO, a global design company, to transform difficult challenges into opportunities. Design thinking is human-centered, collaborative and experimental. Risk-taking is encouraged, along with the permission to fail as the iteration of design leads to the evolution of ideas. Teachers will follow the design process to identify problems opportunities within their classroom, school, district or community. Teachers must attend all 4 dates. |
Managing a 1:1 Blended Learning Classroom | 10/21/20 | Melanie Kitchen | With the onset of 1:1 initiatives across districts, teachers are wondering how to best manage devices in their classroom as well as understanding best practices for research-based technology integration. Participants will discuss strategies for structure with classroom devices in order to develop habits and expectations to support technology as a tool to enhance learning. Technology integration theory and standards will be used as a basis for concrete suggestions for application in every classroom. Time will be given to collaborate on how to implement these ideas, which will require teachers to have access to their digital and/or hard copy materials of existing lessons. |
Minecraft Education Edition in the Classroom | 10/22/20 | Antonio Scordo | The workshop will focus on utilizing the special tools only available in Minecraft Education Edition for to achieve student learning objectives. Ample time will be given to class management, lesson creation, and exploration of curricular lesson tool kits available for Minecraft Education Edition. |
Innovative Educator Social Studies Day 2 | 10/22/20 | Andrew Wheelock | This course is for Grades 5-12 Social Studies interested in learning and sharing new Ed Tech Tools and ideas to engage their students. |
Project-Based Learning Consortium | 10/28/20, 1/13/21 | Melanie Kitchen, Molly Gallagher | Have you started implementing PBL into your classroom and are looking to connect with like-minded teachers? Through this consortium, teachers and administrators will have the opportunity to network, learn from, and reflect on best practices of Project Based Learning. Some of the topics that will be addressed are the essential elements and teaching practices as defined by PBL Works (The Buck Institute), and instructional strategies such as inquiry-based learning, cooperative learning, differentiation, and formative, alternative, and authentic assessment. |
Sketchnotes for Educators | 10/28/20 | Andrew Wheelock | This workshop will provide educators with technology based and non-technology based resources around Sketchnoting. This workshop will highlight researched based strategies combined with technology resources to enhance teaching and learning. |
The Digital Art Museum (Day 1) | 11/2/20 | Andrew Wheelock | This 2 Day Course will showcase digital art tools that will be displayed in Erie 1 BOCES Digital Art Virtual World program. Teachers will learn about Digital Art creation programs and how to support students within our virtual world program. Pricing: Erie 1 Districts must be in DL Base. Districts outside of Erie 1 Must be in part of Local Boces Base. •$300.00 (DL service 454.420.01) •Includes 2 days of PD @Erie 1 BOCES Or Remote •Districts may use more CSLO Days for implementation and In-District support |
Accessibility in Windows 10 | 11/10/20 | Mansel Wells | Participants will be introduced to the Ease of Access settings in Windows 10 that support users with disabilities. These will include display, cursor and pointer options as well as magnifier, color filters, and high contrast tools. The screen reader Narrator will also be explored. |
