Virtual Field Trips and Other Online Activities | Mansel Wells | This is the first in an online video series that identifies sources for events that can by used with students in either a face-to-face setting or remotely. Each video will be supplemented with a document containing links to the resources identified in the video. The first video provides an overview of the concept along with numerous examples. Subsequent videos will address how to search for specific topics, ways for teachers to create their own virtual field trips plus activities and assessments that can be used. CTLE certification credit is available provided the participant completes an exit ticket that includes ways the material will be applied. This video will be available through June 30, 2022. Virtual Field Trips Using Google Earth | Mansel Wells | This session will focus on the resources available in Google Earth Voyager. There are over 700 different expeditions available. Teachers are also able to create their own expedition using Projects in Google Earth. A related tutorial is identified for those wanting to explore that tool. CTLE certification credit is available provided the participant completes an exit ticket that includes ways the material will be applied. This video will be available through June 30, 2022. Writing Workshop: Teacher as Writer | Mary Jo Casilio, Molly Gallagher | Have you been asking your students to write, knowing that it has been many moons since you have explored your own creative side? Spend time this summer exploring mentor texts, visiting your journal, putting pen to paper, and sharing reflections with colleagues. Join us for a virtual writing workshop for teachers (K-12) only. This self-paced professional development will be offered asynchronously via the Desire2Learn. There will be one OPTIONAL 60 minute session offered from 9:30-10:30 am on Wednesday, August 25th. Teachers will be expected to read various mentor texts and respond to various writing tasks/prompts. |

Screencastify (Flipped Classroom Webinar Series) | Mary Kovach | Screencastify can be used to create instructional videos that incorporate screensharing, webcam video/audio, and annotation tools. Book Study: Hacking Teacher Burnout: 8 Steps to Go from Isolated to Empowered So You Can Overcome Any Challenge by Amanda Harper | Darlynda Miktuk | The book for this book study was written in September of 2020, so it is a book about teacher burnout within our current unique times. The author shares an 8 step process, which takes a teacher from burned out to burned in as the author describes it in the book. Book Study: Improve Every Lesson Plan with SEL by Jeffrey Benson | Darlynda Miktuk | The book for this book study was published in 2021. The book identifies SEL skills in three broad categories: skills for self, interpersonal skills, and skills as a community member. Strategies are provided for all three broad categories to use in all parts of a lesson from the opening of the lesson to the closing of the lesson. Re-imagining the Secondary English Classroom: Digging Deeper with Kelly Gallagher and Penny Kittle's 180 Days | Mary Jo Casilio, Molly Gallagher | **Participants should obtain a copy of 180 Days and plan to read during the course of this PD** Do you wish to foster a love of reading and writing in your MS or HS English students? Have you considered a workshop model, but have been unsure where to begin? In this four-part professional book study, we will reflect on the promising practices of veteran English teachers Kelly Gallagher and Penny Kittle as described in their book 180 Days. Join fellow English teachers as we share key beliefs about reading and writing, discuss daily routines and practices, and unpack engaging lessons for the teaching of narrative and argument. NOTE: This self-paced / asynchronous professional development will be offered via the Desire2Learn platform. There will be one OPTIONAL 90-minute synch session offered from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m on Thursday, July 22. Teachers will be expected to read portions of 180 Days and view related content online. |

EdPuzzle (Flipped Classroom Webinar Series) | Mary Kovach | EdPuzzle is a great tool for gauging student understanding of instructional videos in the Flipped or Hybrid/Virtual classroom models. Teachers can track student progress and add guiding questions for either videos that they create, or educational videos curated through EdPuzzle. | 7/29/21 |
Gamification for Student Motivation | Mary Kovach | Through the concepts of Gamification, students can participate in “friendly competition” or work toward individual or group goals while reinforcing or reviewing curricular concepts and vocabulary. In this course, we will explore online tools such as Quizizz, Gimkit, and NearPod’s “Time to Climb.” We will also look at ways to incorporate these tools, as well as character education elements, into ongoing classroom achievements in the form of badges. | 8/10/21 - 8/31/21 |
Loom (Flipped Classroom Webinar Series) | Mary Kovach | Loom is offering their premium screen and video recording, editing, and sharing tools to educators for free! Use Loom to record videos up to 45 minutes in length, which can then be edited into smaller chunks if necessary. Videos can then be downloaded for use in other applications, or shared directly through Loom for viewing or collegial editing. | 8/11/21 |
Nearpod (Flipped Classroom Webinar Series) | Mary Kovach | NearPod offers the ability to incorporate various multimedia activities and assessments into one asynchronous assignment. One of the more recent features is the ability to add interactive videos into NearPod, so that teachers can track student viewing and gauge student understanding of Flipped video content. | 8/24/21 |
