The Safety Risk staff trains thousands of school employees in AED/CPR. We offer different levels of this program for Initial Certification and Recertification. Participants receive an American Heart Association two-year certification, book and card upon completion.

As a New York State certified radon laboratory, our team has conducted sampling and analysis programs in 25 Western New York school districts to meet NYSED requirements for screening facilities for radon gas.

Service provides districts with NYS asbestos certified inspectors, management planners and contractor/supervisors to oversee and manage a district's required asbestos management plan, perform periodic surveillances and Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) re-inspections, and provide required asbestos awareness training for personnel.

Health, Safety and Risk Management is certified to perform AHERA triennial reinspections, NYSED required annual visual inspections, science laboratory safety inspections, automated external defibrillator inspections, safety audits, pre fire and fire inspections, and playground inspections.

Health, Safety and Risk Management provides programs and plans to meet a district's regulatory compliance as required by NYSED, NYSDOL, NYSDEC, NYSDOH, USEPA, USCPSC and NFPA.

Ergonomics has become an important factor in supporting injury prevention initiatives in the workplace. Our specialists perform ergonomic analyses to improve workplace health and safety.

The physical environment of school buildings and grounds is a key factor in the overall health and safety of students, staff, and visitors. Our specialists can perform environmental assessments; and testing of schools.

Student safety is paramount when it comes to our bus driver and bus monitor trainings. Basic bus driver training is mandated for all new bus drivers, while advanced bus driver training allows for a review of materials covered in the basic course, as well as instruction on new rules and regulations. Bus monitor training is required for all monitors and attendants in New York State, within the first year of employment.

Many buildings and grounds personnel are trained to manage the day-to-day operations of swimming pools. After completing our Certified Pool Operator Course, individuals may sit for a closed-book test with the aim of receiving a passing grade of 80%, or higher, to achieve certification.

Health, Safety & Risk Management is a NYSDOH provider of asbestos initial and refresher training courses. Additionally, certified staff conduct AHERA reinspections and periodic surveillances, asbestos sampling, LEA and Employee Asbestos Awareness training, as well as manage district Asbestos Plans.

Safety Risk Level 1 service provides component school districts with the necessary information to develop an understanding of various local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws outlined in the modules contained in the Erie 1 BOCES Health, Safety and Risk Management Service Planning Guide. This is accomplished through newsletters, workshops, and seminars, as well as a maximum of 15 hours of technical assistance in these modules. Level 2 service provides a BOCES Health, Safety and Risk Management staff member to work in a district on a shared basis to develop and implement a comprehensive program from the modules listed in the service planning guide.
