Depew Senior Excels in New Visions Education Pathways Academy Program
Depew High School senior Taytum Shields is making the most of her year in the New Visions Education Pathways Academy program at Buffalo State University, a one-year hands-on learning experience for students interested in careers in education.

Program instructor Anthony Lleras praised Taytum for her drive and character, setting her up for success in the field of education.
“Taytum stands out for her passion, maturity, and openness to learning," said Lleras. "She is deeply reflective about her future and embraces new experiences that help her grow personally and professionally. She exemplifies what it means to be a future-ready professional: thoughtful, open-minded, and committed to making a difference in the lives of others.”

For Taytum, the program has been both eye-opening and inspiring.
“I joined my CTE program with the hope of stepping foot into my future education and learning about what I would like to do,” she said. “I love learning new things and seeing different perspectives, and I truly believe this is the perfect program for that.”
Originally planning to study early childhood education, Taytum is now also considering a career in social work, recognizing “the ongoing desperate need of school social workers.” She’s currently researching both career paths to find the best fit for her passion for helping others.

“This program has opened the door to college and my future,” Shields shared. “There was a time I didn’t think I would ever go to college, but now I know I want to pursue a career that will help people.”
