Erie 1 BOCES Announces Ex Officio Board Members
Erie 1 BOCES is proud to announce its students who will act as ex officio members on the Erie 1 BOCES Board of Education for the 2026-27 school year.

Calspan students Sadie Riordan and Connor Brown-Hall present at an Erie 1 BOCES Board of Education on September 9, 2026.
This is the second year that ex officio student board members will be present at board meetings, in accordance with recent legislation passed by the state. These students, seniors who attend Erie 1 BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, will serve as the primary voice for the student body on the school board. They will ensure that student perspectives, concerns, and interests are represented in all board decision-making processes.
“Our ex officio board members will do an outstanding job representing their peers this school year,” said Associate Director of Career and Technical Education Simone Klubek. “This distinction reflects each student’s leadership, character, and commitment to representing the voice of their classmates across our component districts in our CTE Programs.”
The Erie 1 BOCES ex officio members attend board meetings on a rotating basis and prepare a brief presentation about their studies and other events happening at their CTE Centers. The first year was a rewarding one for both board members and students.
“Having them report on the activities of their schools was very enlightening for the board,” said Erie 1 BOCES Board of Education President John Sherman. “I think they enjoyed the experience, which is very valuable for them as they move on in the future. They may think of running for a board position later in their lives.”
