Emily Winger, a senior from Clarence High School, said she has always wanted to be a teacher, and is preparing for that future in the Education Pathways program in partnership with Buffalo State University. This unique program allows high school students to explore the field of teaching while gaining 17 college credits to prepare for the future.

“This program gives me the opportunity to explore what teaching really looks like and decide if it’s for me,” Emily said.

Instructor Anthony Lleras praised Emily’s dedication and talent in her studies.

“Emily is an extremely responsible young adult who consistently meets and exceeds expectations,” Lleras said. “Her assignments are carefully completed and revised; she will not settle for anything less than her best.”

Emily discovered the Education Pathways program in her junior year and knew it was the right fit for her. Emily plans to major in Social Studies Secondary Education at a SUNY school, and the program has already given her a strong foundation.

“I’m learning about behavior management, lesson planning, and instructional strategies—things I’ll use in my career,” Emily said. “This program has given me an advantage to reach my goals and be a step ahead in college and beyond.”
