International Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day: March 21, 2023
Contributor: The I.D.E.A Committee
As an organization, our goal is to promote and cultivate a working environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive; thereby eliminating the potential for racial discrimination. This important day remembers the 1960 police massacre of the peaceful demonstrators in South Africa, who were protesting against the apartheid “pass laws”. It is a time to reflect on the event, and identify instances in modern society where people of African descent continue to be discriminated against. The United Nations General Assembly decided that a week of solidarity with the peoples struggling against racism and racial discrimination, beginning on 21 March, would be organized annually in all States.
In the present day, the 'International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination' is an opportunity to empower people of all different races. It is a chance to learn from the mistakes of the past and work towards a future of harmony and equality. The 2023 International Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day focus and theme is “Stand up against Racism.”

How can we stop discrimination in society?
A complete strategy to prevent and address human rights issues should include:
- a barrier prevention, review and removal plan.
- anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies.
- an education and training program.
- an internal complaints procedure.
- an accommodation policy and procedure.
