Student Creativity Shines at Erie 1 BOCES Inaugural Art Showcase
The halls of the Education Campus were filled with talented artwork earlier this week at the inaugural Erie 1 BOCES Art Showcase.
A total of 100 pieces of artwork from students at Erie 1 BOCES schools, component districts, and beyond were on display on Wednesday, June 11. Artwork was selected by a panel of judges.
“We’ve been looking for ways to celebrate our student-artists regionally,” said Dan Lynch, Erie 1 BOCES Senior Coordinator of Arts in Education & Exploratory Enrichment. “I thought this would be a good opportunity to bring our K-12 artists together.”
The types of artwork varied from watercolor paintings, acrylic drawings, digital media, 3D artwork, and much more, showing off the hard work and skills of students in the area.
“The kids were excited and happy to be selected,” said Lynch. “There are lots of talented kids around our region, that’s for sure.”
The pieces were on display throughout the week and staff members at the Education Campus further awarded 20 pieces with special distinction, which will be on display at BOCES Square and around the campus during the upcoming year. Riley McFadden of EDGE Academy and Maddie Pfentner from Maryvale Academy were among those who were honored.
The showcase featured a collaboration with students at the Potter CTE Center under the direction of Mike Ortmon. Students designed and created 12 white pedestals to display the 3D artwork. Jacob Habitzruther, Vycent Grant, Kevin Brunner, Alex Chudoba, Angelo Petrizzo, Alex Liska, Michael Bome, Lucas Schickling, and Leo Hunter worked on the project.
Attendees of the Art Showcase were also treated to performances by the Global Concepts Charter School Jazz Ensemble as well as four different ensembles from Kenmore West High School.
Students from Erie 1 BOCES programs whose artwork were featured include Maximus Chapin and Ariel Baughman from Northtowns Academy, Amarionna Collins, Sarah Radka, Z’Aion Howard, Taryn Nurmi, Grace Rajla, Gwen Zych, and McFadden from EDGE Academy, and Andrew MacMillan, Aspen Wojton, Devon Blanding, Gigi Anner, and Pfentner from Maryvale Academy.
The showcase was a tremendous success to celebrate the talent of students throughout the area and is an event that we look forward to hosting for years to come!
