Exceptional Education Behavior Support Team's work recognized
There is something special about Erie 1 BOCES’ Exceptional Education Behavior Support Team. They are a team of five women who go above and beyond for our students.
Diana Petruzzella, Jen Wagle, Joan Conte, Sara Monkelbaan, and Shannon Raimondo all support children with behavioral needs at our Winchester, Northtowns, and Maryvale academies.
They have compassion, heart, drive, and care greatly about student success. They are exceptional because they are not afraid to go the extra mile to ensure a student’s needs are met.
Right now, the challenges that face educators are significant, but this team of behavioral specialists persevere and never stop supporting students, staff, and families in need no matter the obstacles they may face.
“I am truly in awe of our dedicated behavior specialists,” said Lisa Blesy, assistant principal of Winchester Academy. “They care about each individual student, take the time to get to know
them and their needs, and actively work with classroom staff to provide meaningful support. They lead trainings, develop behavior plans, meet with classroom staff, and communicate with building administration – all with a smile!”
The team has a big hand in preparing the Extended School Year program for students with disabilities throughout Erie County. Their efforts ensure that students won’t regress during the summer months and will be successful during the upcoming school year.
“In the weeks to come, as the staff gets ready to wind down on the year, the behavior specialists will support the behavioral needs of the hundreds of students who come to us for summer school,” said Emily Sass, supervisor of Exceptional Education. “We are so lucky to have these five professionals.”
“I have had the opportunity to work with our behavioral specialist team members in multiple locations,” said John Pope, supervisor of Exceptional Education. “They are a truly dedicated and compassionate group of individuals who work diligently on behalf of the students of Erie 1 BOCES. They are true team members who live by the vision of Erie 1 BOCES on a daily basis.”
These five women make a positive difference in the schools that they serve. Their knowledge, experience, and kind hearts benefit each student they work with.
