Strategic Technology Integration | Darlynda Miktuk | 7/11/22 | 8/19/22 | Based on meta-analysis (analyzing multiple studies), John Hattie published factors related to student achievement and the effect size of those factors; he came up with a “hinge point'' of 0.4 and higher for an effect size that identified factors with the greatest positive effects on student learning. This course will explore how to merge high-effect size instructional strategies and aligned technology tools for the chosen high-effect size instructional strategies. Participants will create a strategic technology lesson for their educational setting. This course will only occur in an online asynchronous format and will run from July 11, 2022 to August 19, 2022. | 4 |

This course will explore 4 factors of learning with an effect size of 0.4 or greater to facilitate the fine-tuning of our own teacher clarity in the classroom. The following 4 factors will be explored: cooperative learning, direct instruction, learning intentions and success criteria, and questioning with the purpose of increasing our own teacher clarity. Virtual Museum Experiences in PowerPoint and SharePoint Spaces | Mary Kovach | 7/12/22 | 8/9/22 | Student exposure to museum-type experiences has been correlated to increased academic achievement. In recent years, however, visiting physical museums has not always been a possibility. In this course, we will look at ways for students to have the museum experience virtually and in a self-guided manner through PowerPoint or SharePoint Spaces. Teachers OR students can create nonlinear presentations with embedded objects, information, and 3-dimensional experiences, which can then be shared with their classes. These experiences can be created and used on their own, or as a companion/follow-up activity to a real-world museum visit. NOTE: Teachers must have Microsoft Office 365 accounts through their school to participate. | 5 |

By using the “Code Builder” feature and others built into Minecraft Education Edition, teachers can add interactive elements for students to complete an activity in these worlds. For those who would like additional credit and hands-on experience/products, the face-to-face session will allow you to practice coding, create worlds, and possibly 3D print your builds in our “Creation Space” at Erie 1 BOCES.
