Teaching Through Pastry
Rosalyn Zarrabal is a 12th grader from West Seneca West Senior High School enrolled in the Baking and Pastry Arts program at Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career and Technical Center.
“I enrolled in BOCES because I love to bake at home and thought it’d be something to expand my enjoyment,” said Rosalyn.
Following graduation, Rosalyn plans on becoming an elementary teacher.
“During this class I found that I really enjoy teaching and helping others,” she said. “I think my background in baking could be helpful information to use in elementary education activities.”
Under the instruction of Eric Kraft, Rosalyn competed in the New York State skills competition and most likely will be inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.
“She is always prepared, hard-working, goes above and beyond to help others before herself and has a passion for the baking and pastry arts field,” said Kraft. “I am extremely proud of Rosie.”
“The friendships and bonds I made with my classmates and teacher will last me forever,” said Rosalyn. “The skills and techniques my teacher taught me throughout the past year, like cleaning, organizing, teamwork and being responsible and respectful, are all qualities that will help me in the future. I love this class and will never forget everything I’ve learned.”
As part of public education, Erie 1 BOCES offers a variety of career and technical programs during the regular school day to high school students in Erie County.
