U.S. Presidential Scholar Nominee from Erie 1 BOCES
A Depew student is among five New York State CTE high school seniors nominated for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Congratulations to Cody Cardinal, who attends the Electrical Systems program at Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career & Technical Center under the guidance of instructor Garth Merlino. The recognition from the U.S. Department of Education is one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.
“Each has shown excellence in their pursuits in school and has made their mark in their community, building on their education through service to others,” said State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa, who nominated the students from New York.
The names of semifinalists will be posted online in mid-April, with the winners posted in early May. All 2023 Presidential Scholars will receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and will be presented a Presidential medallion in commemoration of their achievements at a national recognition ceremony sponsored by the White House, tentatively scheduled for June.
